BRUSHING

Brushing is the best way to remove cavity-causing plaque and other debris from your teeth.

Replace your toothbrush every three or four months , or sooner if the bristles become frayed. A worn toothbrush will not do a good job of cleaning your teeth. Children’s toothbrushes often need replacing more frequently than adults because they can wear out sooner.

It is very important to spend at least 2-3 minutes brushing your teeth.

•Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gums.

•Move the brush back and forth gently in short (tooth-wide) strokes.

•Brush the outer tooth surfaces, the inner tooth surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

•Use the “toe” of the brush to clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, using a gentle up-and-down stroke.

•Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

•Choose toothbrushes with soft, round-headed bristles and with a handle that is long enough and wide enough for you to handle.

If you are confused by the wide variety of toothbrushes on the market, consult our dentist for advice on the best toothbrush for you.
